Quicktime can be useful if you're unable to play certain video files (.mov or .3GP) even after installing the MediaMonkey Codec Pack and FFDshow.

In addition, either Quicktime or the MediaMonkey Codec Pack are needed to play M4A files > 48KHz. It is advisable to only use Quicktime as a last resort since Apple is no longer updating it for bugs or security issues after version 7.7.9 released Jan. 2016.

Note for Windows 10 users: Version 7.7.9 can be installed to Windows 10--even though Apple's site indicates that it's only compatible with Windows 7.
